Oil palm, one of the world’s most rapidly expanding crops, is the primary source of vegetable oil and fat, which is especially popular in a society that advocates a health living standard. And for many equatorial countries like Malaysia and Indonesia, the suitability for growth of oil palm means a lot to their economic. The finished products of oil palms can be used in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics and for motorized vehicles as biodiesel. In the latest forty years, the oil palms industry in Malaysia and Indonesia are developed so fast that it makes them respectively the first and second producer of this crop in the world. Meanwhile, their production plan is still expanding.

The research on how the climate change will affect the growth suitability can help Malaysia and Indonesia to find a better solution for the growth of oil palms so that the traditional industry can create a stable contribution to domestic economic.

According to the research data shown in CLIMEX, the suitability for growth of oil palms in Malaysia and Indonesia will be affected by climate change for sure and their economics as well. Besides, this kind of effect will become more and more obvious as the difference of climate aggravates. In the future, the optimal growth area for oil palms will no longer be in equatorial regions, but in subtropical regions instead.
